Henrico is one of only two counties in
Virginia to own and operate its secondary road system. The
excellent road system and transportation planning has reduced
commuting times to work from 1980 to 1990. Henrico County
is one of the few metropolitan areas in the United States
to shorten commuting time. The average commute is about 21
minutes.
Throughout Virginia, our transportation
system has been expertly designed and implemented by the Virginia
Department of Transportation. This state agency is responsible
for providing safe and efficient transportation on the third
largest state-maintained highway system in the country.
RideFinders works to move more commuters in fewer vehicles around the Central Virginia region. RideFinders efforts help increase the efficiency of our transportation infrastructure, improve the air we breathe, enhance the quality of life, and sustain a healthy economy.
The GRTC Transit System was incorporated in 1973 for the purpose of providing public transportation service in the Greater Richmond area. GRTC Transit System provides fixed-route bus service, curb-to-curb paratransit (advanced reservation) service for disabled persons and specialized services such as CARE, C-VAN, Chesterfield LINK and RideFinders.
