Citie of Henricus creates America’s first economy

Commerce and trade in America can be traced back to Jamestown in Virginia founded in 1607 and the Citie of Henricus, a settlement founded in 1611 by Sir Thomas Dale. Henricus became part of the Shire of Henrico in 1634 and was later renamed Henrico County in 1637.
An anniversary commemoration begins on Friday, September 16 at 5 p.m., when the Godspeed sails in from Jamestown.
