Henrico County has a nationally and internationally accredited law enforcement agency and a nationally recognized division of firefighters. Both promote an atmosphere where citizens can feel safe and secure at home and at work. In fact, our police department was among the first agencies to be officially recognized by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. Moreover, Henrico County is recognized by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services as a Certified Crime Prevention Community (CCPC).
The mission of the Henrico County Division of Police is to provide quality service to its citizens and community through honor, professionalism, commitment, compassion, and accountability. The Division of Police offers many, free community services to help prevent crime such as business safety audits, home safety audits, and crime prevention seminars on a variety of subjects. The Division of Police also offers crime prevention and safety programs such as Business Watch, Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), Police Apartment Coalition (PAC), Neighborhood Watch, and Citizens Academies, which foster police/citizen partnerships that improve the quality of life for all.
The mission of Henrico County Division of Fire is to promote and sustain a superior quality of life in Henrico through the provision of emergency related services. It pledges to deliver professional, cost-effective services in a personal, responsive and innovative manner that will always serve the public’s interest. The Division of Fire also enjoys an International Accreditation and is one of a few localities that have been re-accredited twice.
Equipped with over 500 professionals and 20 strategically placed fire stations, the Division of Fire provides fire response planning; emergency medical services; environmental control; specialized rescue; fire prevention and investigations; training and education; and planning hazard reduction, response and recovery to natural and man-made disasters.
