Cost of Living

Henrico County has always been a location where quality meets affordability.  The cost of groceries, housing, utilities, transportation and health care are below costs in the northeast, some west coast locations and many major international locations. Our reasonable cost of living contributes to the region’s sustainable lifestyle.

Virginia and the greater Richmond region are constantly winning accolades for their affordability and business reputation.  Here are a few examples:

  • Watering plants at Lewis GinterVirginia ranked as “America’s Top State for Business” four consecutive years, 2006 – 2009, by Forbes.com.
  • Glen Allen in Henrico is one of the nation’s “100 Best Places to Live”, Money Magazine and CNNmoney.com, August 2009
  • Greater Richmond region is 9th lowest among 50 cities for the cost of operating a corporate headquarters, Boyd Company, November 2009
  • One of America’s fastest-recovering cities, Forbes.com, November 2009
  • One of 20 best regions for young professionals to live and work, Next Generation Consulting, June 2009
  • Henrico Doctors’ Hospital ranked one of “America’s Safest Hospitals”, Forbes.com, January 2009
