After several years of international marketing in China, the Henrico Economic Development Authority has opened a permanent office in Shanghai, the "economic capital of China."
On Friday, June 11, Governor Mark R. Warner announced the Henrico County Economic Development Authority opened an office in Shanghai, China in efforts to recruit Chinese companies to the Henrico region and encourage sustained collaboration between Chinese and Henrico-based businesses. Henrico is the only county in the United States to have an economic development office located in China, the United States' fifth largest export destination.
“For many years now, Henrico County has understood the significant role China will play in the emerging international marketplace," said Fred Agostino, executive director of the Henrico County Economic Development Authority. "Both Henrico and China have taken a proactive step in forging worldwide associations."
“The Chinese office allows us to more vigorously introduce international businesses to the benefits of operating in this area. Henrico offers airport and seaport accessibility, a AAA bond rating, an excellent infrastructure and inexpensive business locations, land and housing. The County is most certainly a viable option for international prospects."
The Henrico County Economic Development Authority partnered with Forte International, an international business-consulting group for American and Chinese businesses, to operate the Shanghai office.
“The entirety of Henrico – from each individual resident to the overall infrastructure - will stand to benefit from this overseas operation," said Virgil Hazelett, Henrico County Manager. "New, international businesses in the County will result in higher tax revenues and additional employment opportunities ... and we have only just begun."
