Air Service

The Richmond International Airport (RIC) offers over 190 daily non-stop flights to and from 22 major domestic markets and international gateways offering convenient access throughout the U.S. and abroad. Over 2.9 million passengers were served and about 112 million pounds of cargo handled at Richmond International Airport in 2005.

Highways

  • Interstates 64, 85, 95, 195, 295, 895 (Pocahontas Parkway).
  • Interstate 64: East to Norfolk, West to St. Louis, MO, connects to I-81.
  • Interstate 85: Richmond-Petersburg MSA, South to Atlanta, GA.
  • Interstate 95: North to Maine, South to Florida.
  • Interstates 195, 295 and SR 288: Beltways for the Richmond area.


Water Port

The Port of Richmond is the westernmost inland port with direct access to the Atlantic Ocean. It services ships and barges with drafts up to 22 feet. On-site port features include U.S. Customs Service, a livestock export ramp, fumigation services, and heavy lift capability for project cargo and special projects.

  • Weekly container liner service to Chester, PA, Antwerp, Belgium and Liverpool, England, as well as container and general cargo service to and from the Northern Europe, Mediterranean, Canada, Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean.
  • Over 300,000 square feet of warehouse storage area and 40 acres of open storage area.
  • CSX provides rail service direct and Norfolk Southern via switch.
  • Total cargo tonnage of over 458,000 short tons in 2004/2005.
  • Teamster Labor Force provides dependable, expert cargo handling.
  • The Port of Richmond is closer than any other port to 77% of Virginia's industrial locations.
  • The Port of Hampton Roads, the world's largest natural deep-water harbor, is within 90 miles of Henrico County.

Rail Service

CSX and Norfolk-Southern provide freight service. Amtrak provides passenger service with 16 trains daily.


Trucklines

Parcel Service

UPS provides two-day surface delivery from Maine to Florida and next-day service to every address in the country. Other carriers include Federal Express, DHL and Menlo Worldwide Forwarding.


Electricity

Dominion Virginia Power provides electricity service, maintaining a 15% generation reserve margin to ensure service reliability.

  • Average cost per kilowatt hour: 3.80 cents (based on 3-shift industrial operation, with monthly usage of 1,000 kw demand and 650,000 kw hours).
  • Mix: 33% nuclear, 42% coal, 19% purchase and interchange, 6% hydro and other.
  • "Perfect Power" during the first three years of operation for Infineon Technologies Richmond.


Natural Gas

The City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities provides service with 1,700 miles of gas distribution mains (750 miles in Henrico County).


Water & Sewer

The Henrico County Department of Public Utilities provides service with 1,184 miles of water mains and 1,180 miles of sanitary sewer.

  • A new state-of-the-art water treatment facility.
  • Sewage capacity: 45.0 mgd. now, 75 mgd. in 2004.
  • Average daily use: 29.4 mgd.
